When the black widow spider finishes mating, she eats her
partner. A single black widow spider may mate with and consume up to
25 males in a single day!
Farmers often keep cats in their barns to chase rodents away from
their grain. In some parts of South America, farmers use giant,
5-pound Marine toads, instead! These toads don't even have
teeth. What they do have are huge mouths filled with poison
spit. One gulp and a rodent is trapped and fatally
paralyzed.
After
devouring another animal, a crocodile usually feels like taking a nap. It
crawls onto a riverbank, stretches out in the sun, and drifts off to sleep
with its mouth wide open. Small birds take care of its teeth.
They dash in and out of the open mouth, picking leftover meat from between
the croc's sharp pointed teeth.
